how long should i wait after exposure to chlamydia or gonorrhea for medicine to be effective? i know it takes a few days for it to come up in tests..

Dr. Hunter Handsfield

Chlamydia treatment: With recommended treatment (azithromycin or doxycycline), chlamydia is non-infectious for partners after 2-3 days, but to be safe it is best to have no sex for at least a week, and only with partners who also were treated or not previously exposed. The standard tests are reliable any time more than 4-5 days after exposure.

2-4 weeks: Most modern tests can usually detect at the 2-3 week period, but will be most sensitive if you wait until 4 weeks after exposure.
