4 shots by age 3 yr: Tetanus shots are part of a combination vaccine (there are several combinations available). A basic combination is DTaP, which protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. A child gets this type of vaccine at ages 2, 4, 6 months; plus a fourth shot around age 15-18 months. If he missed his fourth shot, he may get it now. The next tetanus vaccine afterwards would be after he turns 4 years.
