A member asked:

My daughter had a small vsd about 2mm and the cardiologist said it would probably close as she grows. i want her tonsils and adenoids removed next year. should she take a medication before the op in case the murmur has not closed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually not: It was a common practice to pre-medicate for many procedures in past decades, the recommended reasons have narrowed significantly. Those with artificial grafts, valves or complex lesions are now in that group. Most small defects like this are not. I would confer with her doc but doubt it would be necessary.
