You decide: We worry about newborns because the birthing exposes them to germs that may incubate for a while before emerging as a life threatening illness. (Group B strep, E.coli, etc.) Any baby who develops fever in the 1st 6 wks is often admitted to the hospital for tests & treatment until the cause of the fever is sorted out. Chance exposure to an incubating illness in a family member could trigger this.

Not a good idea: Life is full of risks, so we try to avoid the biggest risks with the most severe "worse case scenarios." First, a new baby can go anywhere, as we're a free people living in a free country. However, babies catch diseases like colds and flus (contagious infections) quite easily. Sometimes, people are carrying the germs and are infectious before they are ill, thus unknowingly pass germs to babies.
