Stool specks: Black color on stool can come from iron supplements contained in some vitamins, from preparations like peptobismol or kaopectate, from small black seeds found in some bread or other food or from blood high up in the gastrointestinal tract. Your physician can perform a simple test on your stool specimen in the office to rule out occult blood in your stool.
