Serious: Yes, black/tarry stool is a sign of upper intestinal bleeding. Vomiting can cause injury and bleeding, but this phenomenon is associated with severe pain. Nonetheless, you have legitimate health concerns and need to be evaluated. Trust your instinct with regard to how emergently you need to be seen. Trust your primary doctor to understand your habit and help to come up with a plan.

Intestinal Bleeding: It's certainly possible that after a history of bulimia you might be more susceptible to ulcers that can cause bleeding but you're young and my guess is the chances of that are low, but non-zero. Talk about this with your doctor and get a guaiac test to determine if blood was truly found in your stool. Sometimes iron supplements can give black stool as well. Good luck.
