A raccoon was out late in the afternoon yesterday at our neighborhood playground. no one saw any strange behavior and we took our kids inside until it was gone and then came back out to play. no contact, is this a rabies exposure?

No risk, no worry: Without physical contact there is no risk of rabies.

No rabies exposure: Rabies is not transmitted from a raccoon through blood, urine, feces or petting it. It is transmitted by saliva - if an infected raccoon bites you or licks its claw and scratches you. There are some other VERY RARE modes of transmission.
