A member asked:

Are the astigmatism axis read counterclockwise or clockwise? on both eyes? is the same to have 4 or to have 176? or is there a 8 degree difference?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Read on 180 axis: Think of astigmatism as a foot ball type oval. The orientation of the points of the football determines the axis which can be horizontal (180 degrees) or vertical at 90 degrees or anything in between. It is read clockwise with no overlap so there is no set of numbers higher than 180 degrees.
