Most: acute tonsillitis is treated with antibiotics if there is a bacterial reason..however other reasons for tonsillitis include viral infections and infectious Mono! In most cases you need a "hands on" visit for a bood test (for Strept or Mono).... Hope this is helpful!' Dr Z
