Rest, fluids, OTC: Rest and fluids and patience are the first line for a viral sore throat. If there is pain, over the counter Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be taken. If severe and the swelling makes it difficult to swallow, see your doctor who can prescribe steroids for the swelling.
