A member asked:

16 yr old f, extreme upper left quadrant pain, all test are normal this pain has come and gone for 2 yrs. recent fever/vomiting..what could it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

LUQ pain: One of the causes of left upper quadrant abdominal pain is gas trapped in the splenic flexure of the colon as it takes a sharp 90 degree turn at that point. The spleen is also located in that area. Pain from the actual stomach or the pancreas are less likely possibilities. Fever and vomiting may be unrelated to the above possibilities. Applying heat to the abdomen breaks down trapped gas.
