Regular follow ups: Women have been getting regular pap smears for decades to handle this issue, long before we knew the cancers relationship to HPV. This will serve as motivation to continue getting pap smears or other testing as her doc suggests, but there is not much more that can be done. Once you have HPV, it sticks around forever. Regular follow ups can pick up early problems when they can be treated & cured.

Be grateful: Comply with the instructions you were given, keep an eye on yourself and report any curious lesions to your doctor, and understand that the woman you loved very likely was saved from a premature death. Cancer of the cervix used to Kill more women than breast cancer does today
