Doctor can recheck: New throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed); a cold, influenza, or "mono" (antibiotics usually not used); or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants, or even stomach reflux during the night. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat symptoms are bothersome, recurrent, or don't go away quickly. Most people don't get their tonsils removed.
