Stop the Xylo: or you will end up with "rebound congestion"- a worsening due to chemical. I advise a 24 hr antihistamine ( Zyrtec or Claritin ) PLUS the daily use of an nasal inhaled steroid spray: Flonase or Nasacort. For viral infections:Force fluids x 8-10 glasses/day of electrolyte rich fluids (Powerade, Gatorade, Vitamin Water, G) and 4-6 bowls/day of broth, bullion, consume or soup. Hot steam showers 3-4 times/day. Nasal saline, Tylenol as needed, Robitussin DM or Mucinex DM as needed. Zinc lozenges and dark brown honey 4 times/day. Rest. Warm water gargles 4-6 times/day. If not hypertensive OK to use a 12-hour nasal decongestant spray, followed by nasal saline spray, warm water gargles or neti pot. Carefully monitor temperature every 4-6 hrs.
