Chest pains: Such sharp, shooting chest pains, especially if brought on with a deep breath, are often due to pinched intercostal nerves or muscles which run between two ribs. Absence of cough makes a lung problem unlikely. Generally these symptoms resolve on their own, but if they persist, change or worsen, see your physician for evaluation. A chest X-Ray may be advised.
