Many people: experience this same effect. It is like cracking your knuckles only it is in the cervical joints rather than your hands. Chiropractors routinely "pop" your spine and neck joints to "realign" your spine. You can save yourself hundreds of dollars by doing it yourself.

Not of great concern: Typically, joints in the spine can pop in thee absence of pain without any underlying concerning cause. Commonly it's the joints/articulations of the spine that causes the popping noise. If the popping is painful, that is something that could be evaluated. Otherwise it tends to be more noticeable in the neck and head region for most people. I hope that helps.
