Sinus infection: Most sinus infections are viral or from allergies and will get better regardless of what you do. Some ways of treating symptoms include decongestants, ibuprofen, nasal saline irrigation and sometimes an intranasal steroid. If confirmed bacterial sinusitis, antibiotics can be used. Antibiotics have been shown not to be effective if symptoms have been present less than 10 days.

Initial treatment: Is humidifier, decongestant, removal of offending agent. If that doesn't work, antibiotics or sinus irrigation. Then trial of steroids. And some people even need surgery. An ENT specialist is the one you need to see for an opinion.
