I have been prescribed fosamax 70 mg. my mother was on fosamax and died of esophegal cancer. am i at greater risk of developing issues myself?

Fosamax: There are important and proper ways to take fosamax to prevent esophageal damage. If there is any preexisting problem with your esophagus like hiatal hernia, stricture or severe GERD, it's best to avoid taking medications like fosamax. There are alternative medications like evista which should have no adverse effects on the esophagus.

Aclasta: If you are worried about oesophageal damage, you can talk to your GP about an annual aclasta infusion (once a year infusion and you can forget about it for the rest of the year).
