Other possibilities: Anything which irritates the pancreas can cause amylase levels to elevate. Alcohol is common. I'm not sure how long it takes for abstinence to quiet down an inflamed pancreas. Since gall stones and other things can irritate the pancreas perhaps time for a further workup?
