IBS...IBS-C or D?: Studies show that dietary modifications such as a low FODMAP diet may be helpful in IBS. You should avoid caffeine, legumes (beans) for bloating, and lactose/fructose. Some patients find probiotics helpful but a large study by ACG found no evidence for use. The TARGET studies recently performed showed Rifaximin TID for 14 days significnatly improved symptoms in IBS-C and expert GIs I refer do it
