A member asked:

My 6yr daughter had a fbc and her haemoglobin level and haematocrit are both just above normal range. how likely is it she has polycythemia vera?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without the actual numbers, though it is highly unlikely that a 6 year-old has polycythemia vera.
