A 34-year-old member asked:

Is it safe to take levoxyl (thyroxine) while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Safe: Levoxyl (thyroxine) is one of the thyroid replacement medications. Since it is the same as the thyroid hormone normally produced by your own thyroid gland, it is safe to take during pregnancy and during breastfeeding. A normal maternal thyroid hormone level is important for the development of the fetus.

Can adrenal insufficiency cause high blood pressure?

Quite the opposite: Low cortisol level as its usually the case in ai, generally leads to low or low normal bp, not the contrary. If hypertension takes place in the presence of ai (and new in onset), then this may be an ominous sign as it may imply a cerebral (brain) insult either due to hypoglycemia or brain ischemia due to poor vascular perfusion. Please discuss this with your physician in a timely manner.

Thyroid hormone dose: Thyroid disorders can become tricky to treat sometimes. Although you have been started on the thyroid hormone replacement but it is highly likely that this small dose may not be enough for u. U may need dose adjustment and also be told about the proper way to take the thyroid hormone ie on empty stomach at least 45 min before u eat. Hope this helps!
