OTC meds: For congestion due to excessive thin mucus production, 1st gen antihistamines may work well. These include Benadryl (short acting), chlorpheniramine (longer acting) and others. Beware of drowsiness. Second gen antihistamines control itching, sneezing, eye watering, and are less effective with congestion and less sedating. Ibuprofen or tylenol if throat is painful. Daily nasal steroid if chronic.
