At 94: the tendons which "operate" your shoulders (ie "ROTATOR CUFFS" are most likely "frayed" ..sometime physical therapy might help by teaching you how to use accessory muscles to raise your arms/ ( Scapula musculature) Hope this is helpful Dr Z

Likely rotator cuff: The rotator cuff muscles are a group of four muscles in the shoulder that help in raising the arm away from the body. A fairly high percentage of elderly people will have chronic rotator cuff tears to some degree. Physical therapy or a simple cortisone shot are non operative ways that we try to improve pain and function without resorting to surgery.
