Needs to be seen: A sudden limp not easily explained by an injury, particularly in this age, needs to be evaluated promptly by his pediatrician. Expect that some form of bone imaging will be done.

Examine: It may be because of a cold with inflammation of the synovium. In the absence of pain and fever it is less likely a septic hip. Vascular insuffiency is all a possibility. To best sort this out he should have an XR, an U/S and inflammatory blood markers: CBC, ESR and CRP. All the best.

Be seen: He would be well served to be evaluated. There are multiple possibilities. Hard to say much more on internet where we don't have ability to examine patient.
