Nondiagnostic: This symptom is nondiagnostic and could be musculoskeletal or early pleurisy especially if aggravated by a deep breath and is accompanied by a cough. Esophageal spasm can cause upper back or front of the chest discomfort. If such discomfort persists or worsens, get examined by a physician. Any appropriate xrays will be ordered.
