While not universal: cramping is not an unusual symptom in early pregnancy. Of course the processes that are going on ... implantation of the fertilized egg into the uterine wall, growth of the microscopic embryo ... would normally not be perceptible, the cramping may be associated with changing hormones that are ramping up to sustain the pregnancy.
