A member asked:

Normal free t3/free t4. elevated tsh (5.50). hypothyroidism??

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes or No: No, if the patient has no symptoms and is a normal person with a normal thyroid gland. Yes, if the person's thyroid gland is actually working overtime to maintain adequate levels of thyroid hormones. The question is not merely what to call it, but more about whether or not the thyroid gland is working overtime and whether or not to supplement with thyroid pills to let the thyroid gland rest a bit.
