A member asked:

Can you take anti psychotic medication for insomnia?

Not Advised: Seroquel (generic quetiapine) is popularly prescribed for sleep due to its sedating side effect. It is not fda approved to treat insomnia. Seroquel is an excellent medication when prescribed properly. Seroquel and other antipsychotic medications have potential serious side effects that are often not disclosed to patients. There are many other sleep aids available. Talk with your doctor.

Not a good idea: Sedation is a side effect os some anipsychotics but these are potent drugs with potential serious side effects--there are safer & better meds for sedation.
