There are six or seven different scoring systems that can tell you the stage, but all of them require a liver biopsy first. Most of the scoring systems are applicable to viral etiologies (i.e. Hepatitis C) or autoimmune hepatitis or cirrhosis. There are no specific systems applicable to alcoholic cirrhosis.
