Sinus and/or antibio: Mucous from a cold can collect into the sinuses. Once there the inflammation or infection can continue to grow and produce sinusitis. With sinusitis the colleted mucous cannot fully drain because the openings from the sinus into the nose can be minimal. For that reason, seeing a physician to provide a medication to widen the openings or if necessary see an ear, nose and throat to help drain.

Rhinitis : Neosynephrine (Afrin) and other decongestants can predispose patients to rhinitis medicamentosa so best change to nasal saline. If symptoms persist then consider nasal Fluticasone Spray for Allergic Rhinitis or see an Otolaryngologist for more detailed examination of your nasal passages and check for occult nasal infections!
