3 years: It takes 3 years to finish pediatric residency after medical school. If you sub-specialize in pediatrics it takes 3+ years to complete fellowship depending on what you go into.

Pediatric Residency: Pediatric residencies are accredited by the acgme and are 3 years in length. So, after 4 years in medical school, a doctor must complete all 3 years in order to practice as a general pediatrician. In order to be board certified by the american board of pediatrics, they must pass the written exam.
