Baby tooth: Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin if not allergic can help, get some numbing cream over the counter so he can eat. And have him wiggle the tooth as much as possible. I gave my kids an apple to eat, that worked every time.

Tooth pain: If teeth r decayed, see dentist for treatment. Temporary pain relief might come from children's advil/motrin (be sure to use proper dose based on child's weight) &/or topical orajel/anbesol. But see dentist soon.

Age concern: 5 is very young for a child to be losing baby teeth, especially a boy. If that's all it is, children's advil/motrin should help. If other concerns, need professional help. Please call your dentist and have your child checked asap. There's no reason for him to be in pain. Let your dentist help.

Benzocaine: A topical gel with Benzocaine can be applied to the area erupting gum sites to anesthetize during eruption process.
