can episodic high blood pressure cause an enlarged heart?

The commonly: accepted answer is that LABILE (episodic) hypertension does not cause hypertensive heart disease...I believe that has been "debunked" and the general answer now is that there are medications which regularize episodic hypertension AFTER the REASON for this blood pressure picture is determined and certain medical conditions ruled out! Hope this helps Dr Z
