Infertility testing: Most couples will get pregnant within one year of unprotected intercourse. After 12 months of trying it is a good idea to get tested. The first steps will be testing to make sure you are ovulating, a semen analysis and an xray to make sure your tubes are open.

It depends: If you have been trying for over 5 years, for example, there is a chance that you can't have kids without help. However, if it has been less than a year, you might just need to be patient and keep trying. Alternatively, you can do some tests to see if there are issues with sperm, eggs, tubes or uterus.
