Ankle swelling: There are many causes of ankle swelling. In older people and those with heart/lung problems, can be a sign of heart failure. In younger people it can be caused by venous insufficiency. Kidney problems can lead to low protein in the blood as a cause of swelling. Best to get an examination and testing by a doctor.
