I have a tortuous esophagus, twisted stomach, hiatus hernia. surgery is required. what type of surgeon should i research and prognosis for recovery?

Foregut Specialist: Sounds like you have a paraesophageal hernia, typically associated with difficulty swallowing, chest pain/pressure, anemia, and sometimes GERD. This is a difficult operation most surgeons don't do. Look for one with extensive experience. Usually a general surgeon, but some thoracic surgeons do this laparoscopically, which is the best way to go. Hope this helps
