Switch to valium: Valium and Alprazolam are in the same class of medications and act on the same receptors, so one is technically a replacement for the other. Valium's onset is much slower and its effects last much longer, so it will probably feel quite different from what you're used to with the Alprazolam. I would talk with your doctor about the best way to transition from one medication to the other.
