Possibly: By "gas build-up" I presume you mean gastrointestinal gas that might travel up from the stomach (carbonated beverages are likely suspects) causing a pressure phenomenon within the esophagus.This could cause referred pain to the upper arm.The brief nature of this is consistent with this mechanism of pain. More likely it was simple esophageal muscle spasm caused by ? The brief duration is reassuring
