A member asked:

I had a compression fracture 15 years ago at t8 - still showing on x-ray. will this always show on an x-ray and will it still cause symptoms? i've been experiencing a lot of back pain in that area recently. what can be done for this?

Yes, potentially: A compression fracture initially visible on X-ray will always be visible on X-ray. That is not to say it isn't healed, but rather that even when it is healed that you can still see the compression deformity. Almost one third of women over 65 will have a visible compression fracture on X-ray. Most don't cause pain once they heal, but they can potentially cause chronic pain if severely compressed
