Confusing=yes: Zika like many viruses can infect a fetus at any point and the outcome is hard to define at this point. It seems to attack/damage the developing nerves within the brain more in their earliest stages. Such damage lessens brain growth and leads to the small head. Most older kids and adults have few if any symptoms when infected. When the nerves are safe or resistant to damage is not clear.
