No consensus on 90: By definition "essential nutrients" are essential for health so we need to ingest all of them for optimal health, but while Joel Wallach DVM, ND claims we need 90 essential nutrients most authorities only list 45: http://tinyurl.com/yb2vrjbq It's not clear if we need the other 45 but Wallach also claims the average Dr. dies at 58 when it's really 73 which prove his claims are not all trustworthy.
