My left ear hurts right before i go to bed. it's a throbbing pain and it makes it hard to sleep. i have a cold at the moment, if that's it.

Possible infection: If the pain is recent then it is probably infection of the ear canal or otitis media.If it is tender when you touch the ear canal opening then it probably is canal treated with antibiotic drops. Suggest waiting a couple days taking advil and/or tylenol (acetaminophen) as most acute otitis resolve with antibiotics. But if pain> 2 days, fever, hearing loss, or drainage then may need antibiotics.
