A member asked:

Is paradoxical breathing also normal in an infant who is not sleeping (i.e. awake and active?)

Belly breathing: Infants often belly breathe because they do so from contracting their breathing muscle (diaphragm) which pushes out the belly, more than expanding their chest like an older kid or adult. It is not necessarily something bad, but must be put into the overall picture of what is happening. I don't label belly breathing as paradoxical, which implies an abnormality.
