See a doctor: If you are checking temperature in a 6 wk old it should be done rectally for it to be accurate. Introduce digital thermometer in the anus so that all of "silver part" is barely inside. If temp is more than 100.4 at his age, you should immediately contact your pediatrician or go to er. It may be a serious infection.

See M.D. ASAP: At 6 weeks of age, all recommendations are to see your pediatrician or er asap. Not because the fever will cause damage, but due to the baby's immature immune system, the cause of the fever could be deadly.
