Laser, antibiotics: Laser can be effective in a few weeks t decrease cystic acne. If laser is not available antibiotic with injections will calm down the cysts. In resistant cases Accutane works well but needs careful monitioring. A typical course of Accutane is 15 to 20 weeks.Dry lips, back ache, and possible nose bleeds are common side effects, which resolve after finishing drug.

Accutane.plan $6K: ...Provides the only significant, lasting improvement. Thanks to numerous celebrated lawsuits about it's significant adverse effects(most salient are births defects and psychiatric changes) the pharmaceutical company has pursued legal maneuvers that effectively have transferred the liability onto the prescribing md. The asps recommended its members stop prescribing so treating mds harder to find.

Several Options: If the cystic acne is severe, Accutane is still an excellent option. It works and the risks are small. Oral and topical antibiotics, as well as a good skincare regimen and regular extraction facials help. The other treatment that has recently been shown to work well is photodynamic therapy with levulan and blue light. The blue spectrum light targets the bacteria in acne.

Treating Acne differ: The cause of acne is poorly understood. However the consequences are well understood and may be devastating. While Accutane is one of the most effective treatments, therapy requires a full understanding of the risks. Once active cystic acne has occurred, practitioners differ in their treatment regimens. In the USA, medications & skin care are commonly recommended; in Europe, surgery is more common.
