Little or no risk: Self-transfer of herpes to another body site is called auto-inoculation. It sometimes occurs during the very first HSV infection, so if you're still in your original outbreak, be careful to wash hands after contacting genitals and avoid rubbing your eyes. But no risk for recurrent outbreaks: the immune system prevents auto-inoculation.
