Regular dose.: The onset of benadryl, when taken by mouth, can be anywhere from 15-45 minutes, so it will not help you fall asleep "fast" necessarily. The usual allergy dose is what is recommended, 25-50 mg. It is not appropriate for short flights, though, as the sleepiness will make getting OFF the plane very difficult. Only use for flights 4-6 hours or longer. Do a test dose before your trip!

25 to 50mgm: You can take 25 mghm and if you don't fall asleep take another 25 mgm.Do not drink alcohol and don't take less than 4 hours of flight as you will be drowsy getting off the plane.
