If the nerve dampens: The pain could last until the nerve impulses from the raw nerve dampen or until the nerve literally 'tires from excess firing.' Sometimes the pain can last for a prolonged period, and may have pain with cold fluids until you get it repaired. A cap can be placed on it fairly inexpensively.

Infection ?: Just because your tooth broke does not mean you have an infection. The pain could be coming from an exposed nerve. If so, the antibiotics are worthless. See if your dentist has health care financing and have the tooth restored or extracted before the pain becomes unbearable.
