Drops inflammation: Cortisone injections, such as dexamethasone and depo medrol, act at the cellular level to reduce inflammation. It blocks the cytokines, lymphocytes (white blood cells), histamines, and other cells and chemicals involved in injury & inflammation. If the shot is effective then this is diagnostic for inflammation being present and being the major pathological process.
